

Inclusive counting
- Casual (everyday thinking):
- "1940 to 1950" usually means from the start of 1940 to the start of 1950, excluding the end of 1950 itself. Hence, casually, we say "ten years."
- Formal (inclusive counting):
- Explicitly counts both 1940 and 1950. It is careful, exact, and leaves no ambiguity. Hence, formally, we have "eleven years."
