    • Opinions not answers
    • Board: Multiple bosses who don’t have context and have a lot of opinions.
    • Never surprise me
    • X → Y, x happens and we ascribe value that likely influences Y. So whether you believe ‘everything happens for a reason’ we make reasons.
    • Process promise: Do what’s right + I think is best, then I can live w/ myself.
    • Who, not what. I’m not my title.
    • How to assess my current state (what questions to ask)
    • Leadership as process.
      • What are my differentiators?
      • What are my LIMFACs? What’s the minimum in that area?

    Leadership → Influence → Relate

    • If we start from relate, then it makes susceptibility to influence, then that increases their desire for leadership
      • Ike: Art of getting someone else to do something you want done - because he wants to do it
    • If I can related, I can be influenced, and if I can be influenced I could be led

What comes first? You’re a fantastic X person helping the company or you’re helping run the company and are good at X

    • How to arrive to leaders above you in service of the whole w/ respect to your piece so that they see/feel your’ thinking about the whole (gestalt)

Self reflection precedes balance. And goal is to not be surprised. Practical examples

    • Average company could reduce the work they do by 20/25% w/o any impact. Try new things…
      • Tyranny of custom.
      • “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.”
      • Why am I doing this? Do I need to keep doing this? Do I need to keep doing this, this way?
    • When you’re asked a ? from a senior [Long tail syndrome, and fresh paint]
      • Is that the right ?. So now I understand the intent
      • If it is, then what do they actually want to know? What’s the minimal amount of information necessary?
        • How much do you need to do at what level?
        • Two-up, one down
    • What takes you # of hours that you could swap for something else
    • Then, what are the non negotiables?
    • How to double and triple dip

We need #s to feel finitude. Make sure you know where you’re spending your time. Framing finitude

    • Tim Urban

    Assumptions

    • Minimize assumptions
      • Clearer expectations routinely communicated
      • Accountability w/ follow-through

XY where answers fall on the x axis and y rise. As you get further in your career. Draw this

Then draw his circle of concern and influence being a mismatch. If your circle of concern is massive and influence small, then you set yourself up for mismatch of expectations etc.

    Lens and filters

Values → people → direction → effective communication → motivation and team engagement → execution → Change + Controversy + Crisis → Best Citizen

    • Change spectrum, when to be a ‘change agent’ and create effective change
      • Steve Jobs wave metaphor. The wave isn’t in the moment…
    • Change + Uncertainty = Chaos

🐘 in rooms… exceptions become the exception

    • There are no secrets… Everyone knows

OKRs + hybrid squads + agile = Andre thoughts on teaming

If you stay where you are…

    • Grow & Learn
    • Add a lot of value
    • Having fun

Loyalty: There’s a paradox where you project loyalty that could further entrench

    • Control and choice. Maximize them.

The faster you make yourself replaceable, the faster you have a new thing to do

Not many things you can’t predict. It’s a when, not if

    1. WHat i Know as a fact
    2. What I don’t know
    3. How quickly I’ll get back to you on step 2

Talk about what you’re going to do to force you to live into a person/reality that makes you do the work

How will you measure your life.

    Concern

What do we owe those who hate us from a place of relatability

Buckets → What are you even trying to balance? What’s the goal? Is there a goal for each? And what % would you put on the each of these 6 goal vs reality? What’s the difference or spread
